Parks and Recreations
Hollister boasts four area parks: Downing View Park, Sagers Park, Cedar Steps and Town Hall Square. The four parks all have a variety of different uses from sports fields to walking trails and historical areas. The Ozark Mountain YMCA branch offers a number of recreation programs and administers all Hollister’s athletic programs, health, fitness and recreational projects.
Economy and Job Market
Thanks to nearby Branson and Interstate 65, Hollister has undergone a bit of resurgence. By the late 1970s most of the businesses in downtown Hollister had closed, but the area is back and booming.
The development of the airport as well as a major entertainment center based around a 75,000 square foot water park that will also include a 7,500 seat event center, retail, hotel and housing centers that should provide a number of jobs.
Education
Hollister has a small, but solid school district. There are three public schools, an elementary, middle and a high school. In addition, there is the private New Life Academy that educates students from kindergarten through high school. Also in Hollister is the College of the Ozarks a four-year accredited college.
Attractions and Points of Interest
Nearby Branson has billed itself as the “Family Friendly Las Vegas” because of the numerous shows and attractions, as well as the flashy building decorations and neon lights. There are over fifty theatres producing over 100 live shows with everything from comedy to plays and concerts. Branson has become a hub for high-profile country acts as well as other forms of music.
The three area lakes and the proximity to the Ozark Mountains provide plenty of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Residents can enjoy boating and fishing on the lakes, hunting, hiking and camping in the mountains and surrounding areas.
